Call for Special Sessions

PEPSC 2026 proposals for special sessions should be within the technical scope of the conference. Special sessions supplement the regular program of the conference and provide a sample of state-of-the-art research in academia and industry on special, novel, challenging, and emerging topics. Special session proposals should be submitted by the prospective organizer(s) who will commit to promoting and handling the review process of the special session as Chair or Co-Chair of the event. One special session lasts 2 hours, which allows 6–10 oral presenters. If the number of presenters is beyond the capacity, parts of them will be arranged for poster sessions. Accepted and presented papers will be included in the conference proceeding and submitted to related databases.

Approved Special Sessions

Special Session I: Advanced Operations and Control for Inverter-Dominated Power Grids

Chair

Mohamed A. H. El-Sayed, Cairo University, Egypt

Energy transition and sustainability can be achieved by increasing the proportion of Renewable Energy in power systems to limit climate change and mitigate global warming. Integrating renewable energy into the grid through power electronic-based devices requires solving the challenge of intermittency, Network Inadequacy, low inertia, inadequate transmission infrastructure. The possible solutions of these challenges include Grid-Scale Energy Storage, Smart Grid technology, Advanced Inverters, network expansion and computational techniques to support energy management and ensure grid stability.

Related Topics:
1) Designing power electronics converter for smart microgrid
2) Grid forming inverter for renewable energy integration
3) Optimal operation of smart microgrid
4) Artificial intelligence application on power converters and battery storage systems
5) Coordinated control of multiple converters in hybrid renewable energy system

Special Session II: Advanced Control, Estimation, and Optimization of Battery Energy Storage Systems for Sustainable Power Applications

Chair

Mohamed Mohamed, Research Fellow , University of Warwick, UK

Vice Chair

Essam Ali, Assistant Professor, Assiut University, Egypt

Vice Chair

Alaaeldin M. Abdelshafy, Assistant Professor, Assiut University, Egypt

This special session focuses on cutting-edge research in the modelling, control, estimation, and optimization of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for modern power and energy applications. With the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources, electrified transportation, and DC microgrids, advanced battery management systems (BMS) have become critical for ensuring safety, reliability, and performance. The session will cover novel methods in state estimation (SoC, SoH, SoP), equivalent circuit modelling, physics-based modelling, and data-driven approaches including machine learning and neural networks. Contributions addressing real-time implementation, control strategies for integrated energy systems, and performance enhancement in aircraft electrification and DC microgrids are particularly encouraged.

Related Topics:
1) Battery modeling (EECM, electrochemical models, hybrid models)
2) State estimation (SoC, SoH, SoP, parameter identification)
3) Battery management systems (BMS)
4) Advanced control strategies for energy storage systems
5) AI/ML techniques in battery diagnostics and prognostics
6) Neural network–based optimization for energy systems
7) Energy storage integration in DC microgrids
8) Electrification of transport systems (EVs, aircraft, marine)
9) Power electronics interfaces for batteries
10) Degradation modeling and lifetime prediction
11) Real-time implementation and embedded systems
